ABOUT UNMIXED
What is Unmixed?
Unmixed is an independent editorial platform where electronic music meets real discourse.
We publish commentary, essays, interviews, investigative pieces, and on-the-ground cultural reporting centered on underground electronic music and its political, social, and artistic contexts.
Who runs Unmixed?
Unmixed is led by a small editorial team and a network of contributors across NYC and abroad. We operate independently, without corporate ownership, and prioritize community-led storytelling.
What does “independent” mean for Unmixed?
It means:
No corporate sponsors controlling narratives
No pay-for-coverage
No PR-filtered editorial guidelines
No allegiance to promoters, venues, or brands
We write for culture, not commerce.

Do you accept pitches?
Yes. We welcome thoughtful, original pitches that align with our mission.

We read every pitch, though response times may vary.
Do you pay contributors?
Yes. Our rates vary based on the type and length of work.
All payment details are outlined in contributor agreements before commissioning.
USING UNMIXED CONTENT
Can I repost Unmixed content on my own platform?
Not without written permission.
Please refer to our Terms of Service for full details.
All content is copyright-protected, and any reproduction — including screenshots, excerpts, translations, or adaptations — requires permission.
Can I quote Unmixed in academic or journalistic work?
You must contact us for permission in advance.
We respond quickly to press and academic inquiries.

Yes — sharing via direct URL links is encouraged.
Reposting text or media is not permitted without approval.
COMMUNITY & CULTURE
Is Unmixed affiliated with any venue, promoter, or brand?
No. We operate editorially independent of all nightlife, festival, or corporate entities.
Do you cover mainstream EDM?
Only when it intersects with cultural, economic, or political issues relevant to the broader ecosystem. Our focus remains underground, independent, and community-driven spaces.
Why do you talk about politics? Isn’t this a music magazine?
Electronic music has always been political.
Unmixed examines the culture honestly, including the power structures, economics, and social realities shaping it.
If you’re here only for hype or PR rewrites, this isn’t that kind of platform.

How do I submit music for review?
We accept submissions, but we do not guarantee coverage.

We do not publish paid reviews.
Can I invite Unmixed to cover my event?
Possibly.
We choose events based on editorial interest, access, safety concerns, and relevance.

Not at this time, but we may in the future.
