The Pacha NYC Countdown Clock is at 12 Days To Go: Why So Quiet, Though?

words by Nina K.Malik

As the anticipation tightens, the Pacha PR team is keeping it surprisingly under the radar. While 140 Stewart Avenue has been cleared for temporary assembly space in DOB filings on March 19, 2026, it is only meant for the ground floor. The space can fit 2,800 people, which is not even close to the planned 7,000-person grand reopening.

Pacha NYC first started testing the market in August 2025, with then brought back to life Instagram page posting nostalgia from 2016, and with a New Year’s trend of throwbacks, it looked like they were leaning very heavily into the 2016 Pacha scene. The thing is, as we have reported previously, that the current Pacha brand was acquired by FIVE Holdings, with its chairman, Indian-born Dubai-based real estate broker Kabir Mulchandani, who is the founder, owner, and chairman of FIVE Holdings, a Dubai-based luxury real estate and hospitality group. It’s all run by one single wealthy man.

Corporate Dubai has been heavily investing in international brands and acquiring more equity to expand its global reach. Kabir Mulchandani’s proposal back in September 2025 secured a loan in the amount of half a billion dollars from Dubai State Bank to do exactly that: expand globally. At the time of their loan, Mirage was going through Chapter 11 restructuring, and while its workers were waiting patiently for their supervisors, managers, and executives to send a memo that they could return to work, Pacha was already negotiating a deal with Axar to acquire Mirage’s assets with no intention of keeping the workers.

Instead, Pacha brought in a new team as fast as the sale got its wet stamp through court, and with the speed of light moved into the former back office of Brooklyn Mirage / Avant Gardner located at 100 Bogart Street. Pacha’s new employees, who essentially serve the purpose of making profit for FIVE Holdings, are now occupying nearly an entire floor with plans to stay long-term.

The latest DOB filings hint at a soft opening for Pacha NYC’s ground floor, but so far, there are neither press releases nor headlines copy-pasting them blindly. Mulchandani’s multi-million-dollar investment in 2023 is living up to its global reputation, with the iconic cherry logo now attached to a growing list of venturesincluding “the Pacha Nightclub, Destino Five Ibiza, Pacha Hotel, Toy Room Club, WooMoon Storytellers (Globally) and The Pacha Collection as well as registered trademarks such as the brand name “Pacha” (Globally) and its distinctive logo design featuring cherries (Globally), amongst others.” as it states on FIVE’s oficial stakeholders report The mysterious “amongst others” in the stakeholders report leaves us guessing what else is brewing behind closed doors, especially with the deal clocking in at a cool $302.5 million.

But what does it mean for nightlife when, in the biggest city of the US, in what some call the capital of the world, New freaking York, where there is a nightlife mayor in place dressing it up as if the city’s nightlife is flourishing, the city’s major landmark event spaces and once the biggest independently owned Avant Gardner get squeezed out, first by private equity and high-interest loans, then with a Dubai bank?

Only to discover that TekSupport has been keeping quiet because they are dealing with their own disputes between two founders, while its sister company, in which they both have stakes, TAG, is in a Chapter 11 crisis? Something smells fishy. It surely raises a question: Is the nightlife mayor’s office functioning as a safety net and support system, or is it a system based on bribes, lobbying, and consulting fees for one simple reason: to keep the doors open? Is it DOB that somehow had to play some role in it when the permits to the new Mirage got revoked two days before the opening?

The story is not over. The next Avant Gardner court hearing is tomorrow, March 25. But the omnibus hearing is nothing more than a lazy way of getting all claims heard and approved in one day. Our guess is that we won’t even hear all of the claim names, much less their substance, and what exactly went into these negotiations. Lawyers, on the other hand, are costing millions per month. These millions are coming out of the same pot that vendors and employees are owed, but will likely never see a dime of it.

With all these courtroom developments in the background, it makes sense for Pacha to opt not to give us an answer, following their press releases that stated Pacha NYC was official in legally questionable language. Now it’s only a matter of 12 days before we find out how much it will cost New Yorkers to step into what was supposed to be the new Brooklyn Mirage, which, as a project itself, hasn’t changed hands on the structural side of the table or the architectural company.

So the vision seems to be worth keeping, because Pacha has proved to be ready to throw money around on costly purchases. Why not hire a new team if the previous one failed? Would the cost of firing and hiring be more than what it has already been costing? With a clock ticking like a time bomb, ready to be detonated to secure DJ fees and ticket sales.
