DJ AGITATED - Archive of Disappearing Now
DJ AGITATED is the secret techno alias of a Belgian electronic music producer with deep roots in the scene. He was first introduced on Steffi’s “The Red Hunter Remix LP,” and that marked a match between two very talented people made in quality heaven. Even though I respectfully think I have an idea of who this person is, the name behind the moniker doesn’t overshadow the importance of the exquisite work he always delivers. Giving it a philosophical twist, in the era of personality cult that plagues the music and DJ world, deciding to just release great music, rejecting, at the same time, the rest of the “carnival” is an act of resistance at its crux.
The choice of the label is not random, either. I could write a lengthy thesis on why and how important Steffi has been in the electronic music world, but I will focus on her stellar label just for now. Dolly Records has been an independent light in the darkness since 2010, always progressing and never compromising. If you are looking for the evolution of the Chicago and Detroit sound, a broad blend of house, techno, breaks, and electro in their pure form, you have found your go-to place. For me, the label falls into my most beloved category, that of “you don’t even need to listen, just buy it” - the Dolly logo is enough.
The “Archive of Disappearing Now” is DJ AGITATED's third release on Dolly TS, the specialized series and catalogue line under the main label that focuses on raw, hypnotic, underground techno. This time, he stepped out of his usual sonic territory and challenged what is considered underground with a highly creative EP. Outstanding percussive elements designed down to the detail, melodies that don’t overpower the tracks and are not used as spectacles but exist to set the emotional tone - the EP is a true masterclass on how to build a track, proving that tension and restraint can coincide harmonically. If you believe that high-octane techno is the only way to impact the dancefloor, think again. I tested all the tracks on different crowds, even at the “highlight” moments of the night, and the result was as expected. The unfiltered feeling that is generated in people and that unique eye contact with the DJ validates that quality was, is, and will always be appreciated, no matter how much you have delved into the world of techno.
